The Southeast Maluku Regency Government is positioning human resource (HR) development as the primary axis for accelerating progress in the archipelagic region. This strategy is realized by strengthening cross-sector collaboration encompassing education, healthcare, and the implementation of digital technology as the foundation for sustainable development.
The Regent of Southeast Maluku, Muhamad Thaher Hanubun, emphasized that the success indicator of a region is not merely measured by the size of the managed fiscal budget, but by the competence of its people. This statement was made during the inauguration of several strategic initiatives in Langgur on Friday (10/7/2026), which included cooperation in specialist doctor education, the launch of the MTH Smart application, and the inauguration of graduates from the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Program.
Despite being faced with geographical challenges and budget constraints, the Southeast Maluku Regency Government chooses to invest in the intelligence of its population. According to the Regent, strategic partnerships with educational institutions like Pattimura University are key to cutting down the barriers of distance and limited access that have historically been obstacles in the archipelagic region.
Through the RPL Program, the local government provides both appreciation and academic opportunities for educators with extensive field experience to obtain bachelor's degrees. This initiative is seen as capable of bridging disparities in educational quality across various locations, including the outermost areas of Southeast Maluku.
In addition to education, the healthcare sector is also receiving serious attention through efforts to meet the need for specialist doctors in the region. The synergy between the local government and higher education institutions is expected to accelerate the equalization of healthcare access, ensuring that all people in the remote parts of the archipelago have equal opportunities to improve their standard of living in the future.
