The Indonesian Navy Regional Command (Kodaeral) XIV Sorong has stated its commitment to fully support the development and nurturing of water sports in the Southwest Papua region. This commitment was reaffirmed in a meeting between the Commander of Kodaeral (Dankodaeral) XIV Sorong, Rear Admiral Djatmoko, S.T., M.M., and the Caretaker Chairman of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) of Southwest Papua, Major General (Ret.) Eko Budi S., at the Kodaeral XIV Headquarters in Sorong City, on Monday (27/7/2026).

The gathering focused on exploring strategic cooperation to scout potential young athletes in coastal areas. KONI hopes that the Navy bases under Kodaeral XIV can actively detect and nurture promising young athletes from an early age, to bring honor to the region on national and global stages.

Responding to this, Rear Admiral Djatmoko expressed his staff's readiness to facilitate training facilities and infrastructure needs. As a naval regional command, Kodaeral XIV Sorong is ready to align the water sports development program with central policies to produce competitive maritime athletes at various competition levels.

The audience was also attended by the Deputy Commander of Kodaeral XIV, First Admiral Tommy Herlambang, along with the main ranking officials of Kodaeral XIV. The meeting concluded with an interactive discussion on tactical steps for the development of water sports disciplines and a group photo session in front of the Headquarters.
