The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is urged to take concrete steps immediately to address the concerning condition of the soccer field in the Tanah Merah area, North Jakarta. The facility, which has been the center of community activities, can no longer be used as it has turned into a permanent puddle.
Member of Commission E of the Jakarta DPRD, Anggi Arando Siregar, emphasized that the land ownership status under PT Pertamina should not be used as an excuse by the regional government to neglect public facilities. He highlighted a positive precedent in 2021, where the Jakarta Provincial Government successfully built roads in the area through intensive communication with Pertamina.
According to Anggi, the success of similar coordination should be replicated to rehabilitate the sports facility. He regretted the loss of space for interaction and sports activities for residents due to the lack of infrastructure maintenance in the area.
Furthermore, Anggi emphasized that renaming the area to 'Tanah Harapan' must be accompanied by concrete actions in improving the quality of public services. The people of Tanah Merah are deemed entitled to access decent public facilities equal to other areas in Jakarta, without having to wait for political momentum or election periods.
In closing, he reminded the government not to only exist as a symbol among the residents, but to be able to provide sustainable solutions to the environmental and social issues that local communities have faced for a long time.
