An intensive search effort is underway by a joint team for two hikers reported to have lost contact in the Mount Piramid area, Curahdami District, Bondowoso Regency. The two survivors are known to have started their hiking trip on Sunday (2/8/2026) and have not returned yet.
Responding to the missing persons report, the police acted quickly. The Chief of Curahdami Sector Police, Assistant Police Commissioner (AKP) Muktamar, confirmed that his side immediately coordinated to deploy rescue personnel, assisted by volunteers from the Association of Indonesian Mountain Guides (APGI).
The initial search operation began on Monday (3/8/2026) night. The joint rescue team was deployed to Post 1 of Mount Piramid to sweep the hiking trail and gather initial clues to locate the two hikers.
