The Women's Organizations Association (GOW) of Katingan Regency organized a community program titled 'GOW Visiting the Village' in Asem Kumbang Village, Kamipang District, on Thursday (23/7/2026). This tactical step was initiated to boost the quality of life of rural communities, focusing on the elderly, women, and children.
The Chairperson of Katingan Regency GOW, Mrs. Tri Windarti Firdaus, explained that the presence of this organization aims to deliver a real, tangible impact that can be directly felt by the community. According to her, the program is not limited to normative counseling, but is filled with concrete actions ranging from medical check-ups to practical skills training.
As an effort for early health intervention, GOW brought in pediatricians to conduct screenings and in-depth assessments for toddlers at risk of stunting. Children indicated as having growth and development disorders will later receive intensive guidance for three months alongside local health workers.
In addition to focusing on child health, this program gives special attention to the elderly through free health check-ups to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining fitness in old age. At the same time, coinciding with National Children's Day, GOW also held a 'Youth Class' program at SMP Negeri 4 Katingan to equip the younger generation with an understanding of health and future planning.
In the local economic empowerment sector, GOW facilitated training on processing fishery products by inviting instructors from Palangka Raya City. Given the abundance of freshwater fishery potential in Asem Kumbang Village, residents were trained to process these commodities into high-value products such as fish crackers (kerupuk) and amplang. Interested participants were even promised further guidance so that their businesses can grow independently.
The initiative, held to celebrate the 24th Anniversary of Katingan Regency, carries the theme 'Empowered Women, Healthy Families, Advanced Villages Based on Local Potential'. Through close collaboration between women's organizations, community health centers (puskesmas), schools, and the village government, this program is expected to be the driving force for creating family independence in Katingan Regency.
