Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the waters of South Lampung Regency, showed an increase in volcanic activity again on Monday afternoon, July 6, 2026. Reports from the Mount Anak Krakatau Observation Post recorded an eruption spewing volcanic ash up to a height of 150 meters above the crater peak.
As of now, authorities have maintained Mount Anak Krakatau's status at Level III or Alert (Siaga). Observation officer Muhammad Dika Nurzaman revealed that the visual condition of the volcano is still fairly clear, despite occasionally being covered by thin fog around the crater.
Based on observational data, the smoke emanating from the main crater was observed to be white with varying intensity, ranging from thin to thick. This phenomenon is accompanied by weather in the area tending to be sunny to cloudy, with weak winds blowing toward the northwest.
In addition to visual activity, seismograph instruments also recorded an increase in seismic activity. There were 24 harmonic tremors recorded with amplitudes ranging from 1.7 to 21.1 millimeters, as well as one distant tectonic earthquake. All data continues to be intensively monitored by the PVMBG to determine further mitigation steps.
Although volcanic activity is increasing, the waters around Mount Anak Krakatau are reported to remain stable. No significant wave surges have been detected, so the situation in the area is still considered relatively calm by local observation authorities.
