Mount Karangetang in Siau Tagulandang Biaro Islands (Sitaro) Regency, North Sulawesi, was reported to show volcanic activity in the form of an eruption again on Sunday (12/7/2026). This phenomenon was marked by the appearance of fire bursts and incandescent lava flows observed from the peak area of the volcano.
As of now, authorities have confirmed that there are no reports of infrastructural damage or casualties resulting from the volcanic activity. Based on the latest data, the volcano remains at Level II (Alert), so the public is requested to remain vigilant.
Acting Regent of Sitaro, Heronimus Makainas, strictly requested the public not to be provoked by unverified information. He emphasized that residents should only refer to official information channels issued by PVMBG, BPBD, or the local government to maintain regional order.
“We appeal to the public around disaster-prone areas to always adhere to the designated exclusion zones for shared safety,” said Heronimus in a statement on Sunday (12/7/2026).
As an anticipatory measure, the local government has instructed all levels, from sub-district to village levels, to coordinate closely with the military (TNI), police (Polri), and BPBD. They guarantee emergency response readiness should there be a significant change in the escalation of volcanic activity in the near future.
