Volcanic activity at Mount Karangetang, located in the Siau Tagulandang Biaro (Sitaro) Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, has increased once again. The active volcano reportedly experienced a small-scale explosive eruption on Sunday (12/7) night at around 19:20 WITA.
The Head of the Mount Karangetang Volcano Observation Post, Yieko Rompas, confirmed that the eruption originated from Crater II. The eruption spewed incandescent lava into the air to a height of approximately 400 meters, with the slide distance of hot materials reaching 700 meters to the northwest.
To date, the activity status of Mount Karangetang remains at Level III (Alert). The observation post, together with the local government and related agencies, continues to conduct strict periodic monitoring to anticipate any potential increase in larger volcanic activity.
In response to the situation, local authorities have urged residents living around the slopes of the mountain to increase their vigilance against the threat of lava flows. The public is asked to remain calm, avoid danger zones, and comply with all instructions from officers for mutual safety.
