The Bendungan Nature Reserve area in Bendungan Village, Kaliwiro District, Wonosobo Regency, now features a new hiking destination. The Mount Lawang trail officially opened to the public on Saturday (4/7/2026), offering an alternative for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a hiking experience with a more intimate connection to nature.
Unlike other popular hiking destinations, the management of Mount Lawang strictly applies an ecotourism concept. Habib, Coordinator of RPB SAR Kaliwiro, emphasized that opening this trail is not merely a commercialization effort, but an instrument to build collective awareness in preserving the still-pristine secondary natural forest ecosystem.
"We are committed to ensuring that hikers not only enjoy the beauty but also play a role as protectors of the flora, fauna, and ecosystem in the Bendungan Nature Reserve area. The main focus is to ensure that forest functions are maintained despite tourism activities," said Habib.
Characteristically, Mount Lawang offers unique terrain with dense natural forest vegetation cover along a 5 to 6 kilometer hiking trail. Standing at 900 meters above sea level, hikers will be treated to beautiful sunrise and sunset panoramas against the majestic backdrop of Mount Sindoro and Mount Sumbing. The management ensures hiker safety by stationing a SAR team at the basecamp located at the Bendungan Village Office.
For those interested in trying this trail, the management sets a regular registration fee of IDR 30,000. Specifically during the opening promotion period, visitors can enjoy a special rate of IDR 25,000 per person.
