The Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) has officially announced the readiness of the Merah Putih contingent to compete in the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. A total of 432 athletes from 35 selected sports will be sent to represent the nation in Asia's largest sporting event, which will take place from September 19 to October 4, 2026.
In addition to the athletes, the Indonesian delegation will also be supported by 148 coaches and support staff, as well as 32 personnel from the Chef de Mission (CdM) team. The official composition of this contingent was determined through a comprehensive evaluation process involving the review team of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), the Sport Commission of NOC Indonesia, and the respective national sports federations.
Chairman of NOC Indonesia, Raja Sapta Oktohari, emphasized that the Asian Games is a prestigious stage to prove the development of the country's sports at the continental level. Oktohari is confident that all selected athletes have passed a very strict screening process and are ready to deliver their best performances for the honor of Indonesia.
In terms of funding, the majority of sports will be facilitated through the State Budget (APBN). However, there are three sports that will depart under an independent scheme, namely boxing, fencing, and table tennis, whose budgets are sourced from their respective federation funds and sponsor support.
Oktohari ensured that there would be no difference in treatment between sports funded by the state and those departing independently. Once they hold the status of being part of Team Indonesia, the responsibilities and targets to win medals remain equal for the glory of the Merah Putih.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, emphasized that the selection of the contingent was carried out transparently and objectively to ensure that the athletes sent truly possess high competitiveness. The government is fully committed to supporting the athletes' struggle to achieve maximum success in Japan.
On the other hand, the Chef de Mission (CdM) of Team Indonesia for the 2026 Asian Games, Todotua Pasaribu, expressed his commitment to providing the best service for the athletes. He ensured that all operational aspects, from technical preparation, departure, to the return of the contingent, have been carefully planned so that the athletes can focus entirely on the competition.
