Fluctuating volcanic activity from Mount Anak Krakatau recently triggered concern in Banten's tourism sector. Herlina, Treasurer of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Banten, revealed that the spread of inaccurate information on social media caused several prospective guests to cancel bookings or postpone their visit schedules to the Anyer Beach area.
Nevertheless, Herlina emphasized that the impact of these cancellations remains minimal, at under 10 percent of total bookings. Her party ensured that tourism activities along the Anyer coast currently continue to operate normally, and overall hotel occupancy rates remain well-maintained.
Regarding safety, Anggi Nuryo Saputro, an officer at the Anak Krakatau Volcano Observation Post (PGA), explained that current conditions differ significantly from the 2018 tsunami event. At present, the lower structure of the mountain's body makes the potential tsunami threat much smaller based on expert analysis.
To date, Mount Anak Krakatau's status remains at Level III (Alert) with eruptive activity varying daily. Tourism management and relevant authorities continue efforts to educate the public so they are not swayed by unfounded rumors, while continuing to periodically monitor the mountain's status to ensure tourist comfort.
