The award was approved via a decree signed by the Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Degtyarev. International SAMBO Federation (FIAS) President Vasily Shestakov specifically expressed appreciation for Makhachev's dedication in bringing Combat Sambo techniques to the global stage, while acknowledging his position as a top fighter in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.
This conferment comes at an important moment for Makhachev before he steps into the octagon to face Ian Machado Garry on August 15. His status is now even more prestigious after successfully becoming the 11th fighter to capture titles in two different divisions, matching the record of legends like Georges St-Pierre and Daniel Cormier.
In addition to his collection of championship belts, Makhachev has also posted an impressive milestone by tying Anderson Silva's record of 16 consecutive victories.
