Kacamatamoo, an Indonesian optical company, is taking strategic steps to strengthen its position on the international stage. After successfully operating 92 domestic stores since its establishment in 2019, the company, which has served over 350,000 customers, is now targeting several Asian countries to expand its business reach.
Kacamatamoo founder Michael Oktowinadi revealed that the company aims to operate 100 outlets by the end of this year. International expansion has begun with the opening of outlets in India and Malaysia, followed by plans to enter Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand next year. According to Michael, the Malaysian market is highly prospective due to consumer characteristics similar to their primary customer base in Indonesia.
Unlike conventional optical retailers, Kacamatamoo chooses not to enter shopping malls. Their business strategy focuses instead on commercial and residential areas to reach the middle-market segment with affordable product price ranges. This business model is supported by strategic partnerships with investment values of around IDR 1 billion to IDR 1.5 billion per outlet, with a break-even point projected to be reached within 22 months.
In addition to expanding its retail network, Kacamatamoo is transforming into a comprehensive vision care provider. This step is realized through a collaboration with Vio Optical Clinic to introduce the 'Vision Center'. This partnership is designed to create an integrated eye care ecosystem, ranging from the early detection of vision disorders to clinical management for children and adults.
Andri Agus Syah, founder of Vio Optical Clinic, stated that this integration aims to improve public access to quality eye healthcare services. By combining the strength of a vast retail network with professional clinical services, Kacamatamoo is committed to continuous innovation in meeting the evolving eye health needs of the community.
