The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) of the Republic of Indonesia has issued an official statement regarding the devastating fire that swept through an entertainment venue in the Lat Phrao area, Bangkok, Thailand, on July 12, 2026. To date, relevant authorities have confirmed that no Indonesian citizens (WNI) were among the victims of this tragic event.
Heni Hamidah, Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) at the Ministry, stated that her team has coordinated intensively with the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Bangkok to gather information from local police and hospitals. Monitoring results so far show no reports of Indonesian citizens who died or sustained injuries.
Thai authorities reported that the tragedy claimed 27 lives and left 63 others injured. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul revealed that the incident began with an electrical short circuit in a circuit breaker near the stage, which then triggered an explosion and a total blackout.
Victims were reportedly trapped in panic, with many attempting to flee to the restroom areas, which unfortunately lacked adequate escape routes. The situation was worsened by exposure to thick smoke inhaled by patrons inside the building.
Currently, local police are still conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok remains on high alert to monitor developments on the ground and stands ready to provide consular assistance should any Indonesian citizens require further support.
