The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) of the Republic of Indonesia has officially initiated a strategic move to improve the governance of Health Human Resources (SDMK) across Indonesia. This effort focuses on a paradigm shift in healthcare workforce planning, moving from previous head-count estimates toward calculating real needs based on workload at each health service facility.

During an online dissemination event on Tuesday (19/5/2026), the government emphasized the importance of applying the Health Workload Analysis (ABK-Kes) method. This method is designed to enable every region to formulate more systematic, measurable health workforce needs plans aligned with regional development planning documents such as the RPJMD and Renstra.

The key update in this system is full integration with the SatuSehat SDMK digital platform. Through an integrated dashboard, local governments can now access real-time data on the availability, distribution, and professional specifications of health personnel in the public, private, and independent practice sectors. This digitalization aims to achieve an equitable distribution of medical staff across all regions.

By combining minimum requirement standards with workload analysis, the Ministry of Health is optimistic that future policies will be more evidence-based. This step is expected to serve as a concrete solution to address healthcare workforce disparities, ensuring public access to quality medical services is met more effectively and equitably.
