The Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam) held a strategic coordination meeting in Surabaya to encourage the emergence of a BEJO’S mass media policy, which stands for Responsible (Bertanggung Jawab), Educative (Edukatif), Honest (Jujur), Objective (Objektif), and Industrially Healthy (Sehat). This initiative was taken as a preventive measure to face increasingly complex digital disruption challenges in the national political landscape.
Deputy for Coordination of Communication and Information of Kemenko Polkam, Air Vice Marshal Dr. Eko D. Indarto, emphasized that the global media landscape has undergone fundamental changes due to the dominance of technology and algorithms. According to him, national stability currently depends heavily on the nation's ability to keep the information space healthy and trustworthy, given that competition for information has shifted to a battle for public attention and perception.
During the forum, which brought together academics, members of the press, and government representatives, real threats such as hoaxes, hate speech, and the destructive use of artificial intelligence (AI) were also highlighted. Kemenko Polkam assesses that the mass media has a crucial role as a pillar of democracy that must be able to mitigate the risks of social polarization to prevent it from disrupting national resilience.
To strengthen information integrity, the government encourages the strengthening of digital literacy and the development of AI-based early detection systems. Cross-sector collaboration between the government, media industry players, and the public is seen as the main key to building an adaptive and professional media governance that supports the creation of a conducive public space toward the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.
