Tangerang City has once again asserted its dominance in the provincial-level student sports arena. After previously being crowned the overall champion at the XII Banten Regional Student Sports Week (Popda) 2026, the Tangerang City contingent has now successfully defended the overall championship title at the IX Banten Regional Student Paralympic Week (Peparpeda) held in Cilegon City.
This achievement was confirmed during the closing ceremony at the ASA Sport Center Gymnasium on Saturday (June 27, 2026). The Deputy Mayor of Tangerang, H. Maryono, expressed his pride in this double achievement. According to him, this accomplishment is concrete evidence that the sports development ecosystem in Tangerang City, both for general athletes and para-athletes, is running very well and inclusively.
In the Peparpeda IX event, the Tangerang City contingent dominated the medal tally with a total of 17 golds, 10 silvers, and 3 bronzes. Outstanding individual achievements came from Muhammad Aditya Al-Azis in para-athletics and Muhammad Deza Pratama in para-swimming, each contributing three gold medals for their region.
The Tangerang City Government is committed to continuously improving the quality of coaching and supporting facilities and infrastructure for young athletes. This step is taken as a long-term effort to motivate athletes to go further, not only at the regional level, but also on the national and international stages.
Meanwhile, the Banten Provincial Government, through Regional Assistant I Komarudin, appreciated the hosting of Peparpeda as a concrete manifestation of the commitment to inclusive human resource development. He emphasized that the spirit of participation among the athletes is the true victory that must continue to be nurtured for a more competitive future for Banten sports.
