The rapid development of digital technology and the implementation of the Coretax system are currently revolutionizing the tax profession landscape globally. Responding to these challenges, the Indonesian Tax Consultants Association (IKPI) emphasized that tax students can no longer rely solely on conventional understanding of legal regulations, but must master artificial intelligence (AI) technology and business analytics.
This crucial message was delivered directly by the General Chairman of IKPI, Vaudy Starworld, while speaking at an Expert Lecture held by the Applied Bachelor Degree in Tax Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Business and Economics, Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), Sleman, on Monday (13/7/2026). The event, which highlighted career readiness in the digital era, was officially opened by UII Vice-Rector Prof. Rifqi Muhammad, Ph.D., and attended by the local deanery leadership.
In his presentation, Vaudy explained that automation driven by artificial intelligence has taken over many administrative tasks that were previously routine duties of tax consultants. However, he stressed that technological advancement will not eliminate the profession, but rather shift its focus toward critical thinking skills, a deep understanding of business models, and the ability to formulate strategic solutions.
The transformation of the tax administration system carried out by the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) through Coretax has also altered industry expectations for fresh graduates. Future tax consultants are required to act as strategic advisors capable of managing clients' business risks based on data analysis derived from digital tax administration and business intelligence.
To bridge the gap between academia and industry, Vaudy encouraged UII students to start pursuing professional certifications early. Strategic steps such as taking brevet courses, the Tax Consultant Certification Examination (USKP), and obtaining an official practice license serve as crucial assets for graduates to compete with integrity in the modern work ecosystem.
