Mitsubishi Motors is reviving the legendary "Eclipse" name with the launch of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback. Unlike its predecessor, which was closely associated with the image of a high-performance sports car, this latest model transforms into a battery electric vehicle (BEV) with a modern and eco-friendly SUV coupe concept.
This environmentally friendly vehicle is scheduled to officially hit the North American market in the second half of 2026 as a 2027 model. This step marks a new chapter for the Japanese automaker in accelerating its transition toward a global electrification era.
In its development, Mitsubishi collaborated closely with Nissan. The Eclipse Sportback is built on the same platform as the next-generation Nissan Leaf. In terms of powertrain, this electric SUV is equipped with a 75 kWh lithium-ion battery with an efficient liquid cooling system to keep battery performance optimal.
To provide high flexibility for its users, the Eclipse Sportback supports various charging options, from Level 1, Level 2, to fast charging using Tesla's NACS standard. This strategy is expected to meet global market demands for future vehicles that are practical, eco-friendly, and technology-packed.
