LHOKSEUMAWE – As an effort to respond to the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the academic sector, Malikussaleh University (Unimal) held an educational event titled Gemini Aksara 2026. Taking place at the Cut Meutia Hall, Bukit Indah Campus, Lhokseumawe, this activity was specifically designed to encourage students to utilize the AI ecosystem smartly, critically, and responsibly.
The event, themed "Student Research Revolution: Optimizing Gemini and the Google AI Ecosystem for Smart Academic Writing," was initiated by Annisya Febriana Lubis, one of the Top 50 Gemini Achievers. Collaborating with the Unimal Information Systems Student Association (HIMASI), this program combined learning spaces with various competitions, such as essay writing, creative content creation, and an educational talk show.
The Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Unimal, Prof. Dr. Arnawan Hasibuan, Ph.D., highly appreciated this initiative. He reminded that in today's digital era, students must not merely be passive users, but must understand how AI works correctly so that the technology does not erode critical thinking skills.
Arnawan emphasized the importance for students to continuously hone their competencies while recognizing the limitations of using AI. According to him, the appropriate use of technology will increase productivity and yield high-quality scientific writings without compromising academic integrity.
In the talk show session, academic Widyana Verawaty Siregar, Ph.D., explained the strategic role of the Gemini platform in supporting research. AI can make it easier for students to find fresh ideas, explore references, and structure their writing. However, she emphasized that AI is only a tool, not a replacement for human intelligence.
On the other hand, the Chairman of HIMASI Unimal, Hadistilla Rayzan Fasya, stated that Gemini Aksara 2026 is a crucial platform for improving students' digital literacy. Annisya Febriana Lubis, as the initiator, added that mastering this cutting-edge technology must be balanced with strong research ethics to produce valid and original innovations.
