The Serang City Government, through the Department of Tourism, Youth, and Sports (Disparpora), is finalizing plans to open a paragliding tourism destination in the Mount Gedor area, Taktakan District. However, the inauguration of this extreme sports attraction must still await the results of a safety study and test flight to ensure safety for tourists.
The Head of the Serang City Disparpora, Zeka Bachdi, revealed that the target for completing the safety study, originally scheduled for this month, had to be postponed until next month. Currently, Disparpora, along with the Gorda Air Force Base (Lanud Gorda) and the Indonesian Aero Sport Federation (FASI), is still awaiting the results of a comprehensive analysis from a third party.
The safety study is crucial as it includes wind direction analysis, injury risk mitigation, and emergency evacuation schemes in case of incidents. Once the study results are declared feasible, the next stage is to conduct a test flight, which is expected to take only half a day.
This new tourist destination will later be integrated with a camping ground managed by the local community through the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis). The paragliding flight path is designed to have a length of about 530 meters, with a landing point in the Perhutani area bordering Serang Regency directly.
The development of paragliding tourism on Mount Gedor is expected to become a new magnet for tourism in Serang City, attracting both local and regional tourists. The presence of this destination is also projected to boost the economy of local residents and make a positive contribution to the Regional Original Income (PAD).
