Addressing this challenge, BYD introduced Dual Mode (DM) technology through the BYD M6 DM model. As a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), this technology is designed with an electric-first philosophy, where the electric motor remains the main driver of the vehicle to maintain a quiet, responsive, and smooth driving character akin to a pure electric car.

The DM 5.0 system enables intelligent mode switching between EV, series HEV, and parallel HEV. In daily urban use, the car can operate entirely on electric power. When battery power drops or requires extra performance on highways, the gasoline engine automatically activates as a generator or performance supporter without sacrificing cabin comfort.

In cross-terrain testing covering the route from Jakarta to Bogor, the BYD M6 DM demonstrated impressive efficiency. The linear driving dynamics and consistently quiet cabin prove that this system is capable of delivering an experience comparable to a fully electrified vehicle. This technology serves as a realistic bridge solution for consumers who desire the comfort of electric technology while still requiring the flexibility of a gasoline engine for seamless long-distance mobility.
