The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Pratikno, emphasized that creating a safe and comfortable environment is an absolute prerequisite for fostering a smart and character-driven Indonesian generation. He stated that academic achievement loses its meaning if children grow up under physical or mental strain caused by violence.
Pratikno conveyed the statement during the inauguration of the National Movement for Children's Safe and Comfortable Spaces (RANA) in Malang, East Java, on Monday (13/7/2026). The launch coincided with the start of the FRIENDLY School Environment Orientation Period (MPLS) for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Furthermore, Pratikno highlighted the vital role of schools as protectors of students. According to him, holistic health—covering physical, mental, social, and spiritual aspects—must be a top priority. Violence against children, if left unchecked, is believed to cause long-term traumatic impacts, ranging from loss of self-confidence to obstacles in learning capabilities.
The government is currently promoting four main pillars of safe spaces for children: family environments, educational institutions, public spaces, and digital spaces. Pratikno specifically highlighted the challenges of the digital era, where the average daily screen time in Indonesia reaches seven hours. He commended device restriction policies for children as a preventive measure to safeguard the mental health of the younger generation.
On the occasion, Pratikno also encouraged students to speak up if they face bullying or violence. He reaffirmed that cross-sector collaboration among parents, teachers, the government, and the community is crucial to ensure children can grow optimally in a supportive and protected environment.
