The Ministry of Public Works (PU) affirmed its commitment to completing the sea dike and river mouth construction project in northern coastal Jakarta by 2027. This strategic project is an integral part of the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) Program, designed to fortify densely populated settlements and economic centers from tidal floods that frequently hit the region.
Acting Director of Rivers and Coasts at the Directorate General of Water Resources, Mochammad Dian Al Ma'ruf, revealed that out of the total 120-kilometer coastline of Jakarta Bay, 43.98 kilometers are critical areas prioritized for intervention. To date, the Ministry of Public Works has successfully completed 14.85 kilometers, leaving 0.85 kilometers currently under construction.
The construction focus encompasses five strategic areas: Kamal Muara-Dadap, Kapuk Muara-Kamal Muara, Muara Baru, Ancol, and Kalibaru-Cilincing. To support the acceleration of the project's completion, the government has allocated a budget of IDR 970 billion, focused on the Kapuk Muara-Kamal Muara and Kamal Muara-Dadap areas directly adjacent to the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area.
During a field inspection, Chairman of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Lasarus, stressed that the legislature would strictly monitor the construction progress. He emphasized the importance of compliance with regulations and environmentally friendly standards to ensure the infrastructure built does not adversely impact the coastal ecosystem. Commission V is committed to overseeing the smooth progress of this project to ensure the future safety and resilience of northern Jakarta.
