The Karo Regency Government has taken a strategic step to modernize the local agricultural sector by exploring international cooperation. The Regent of Karo, Retired Police Brigadier General Dr. dr. Antonius Ginting, Sp.OG., M.Kes., held an official meeting with the Deputy Consul General of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Mr. Song Jianming, at the PRC Consulate General Office in Medan on Tuesday (14/7/2026).
The warm meeting focused on technology transfer efforts to optimize Karo's potential as one of the largest horticultural hubs in North Sumatra. The Karo region is known as a major producer of vegetables, fruits, and food crops supplying regional food needs.
During the audience, the Karo Regency Government presented several strategic partnership points. These included the implementation of modern agricultural mechanization, the development of efficient irrigation systems, the utilization of digital technology in production and marketing supply chains, as well as farmer capacity-building programs through joint training.
In addition to the agricultural sector, the Regent of Karo also used this momentum to promote local tourism. He personally invited the leadership of the PRC Consulate General to attend the annual Karo Regency Flower and Fruit Festival, which will be held in Berastagi from late July to early August.
Responding to the initiative, the Deputy Consul General of the PRC, Mr. Song Jianming, welcomed the proposed cooperation program positively. His side is committed to following up on this meeting into a concrete partnership program that can deliver real economic impacts for the farming community in Karo Regency.
