The utilization of biometric technology by BPJS Kesehatan is now starting to show a significant impact on accelerating the patient identity verification process at Ngoerah Central General Hospital (RSUP), Denpasar, Bali. This innovative step was taken to cut the waiting time for National Health Insurance (JKN) patients from when they arrive at the healthcare facility until they receive medical treatment.
Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar, during a direct inspection at RSUP Ngoerah on Wednesday (8/7/2026), emphasized the government's commitment to creating an inclusive and quality healthcare system. He stressed that digital transformation through biometric technology is part of the efforts to ensure the public receives fast, efficient, and discrimination-free access to health services.
Echoing this statement, the Director of Health Service Assurance at BPJS Kesehatan, Abdi Kurniawan Purba, explained that the synergy between the government and health facilities is the primary key to the success of this innovation. The integration of the self-registration system via the Mobile JKN application with the biometric verification system at the hospital is designed to provide more practical administrative convenience for every participant.
On the other hand, a positive response came from service users. One patient's relative, Riyanto (71), expressed his satisfaction with the administrative efficiency and the friendliness of the medical staff he encountered at the hospital. He admitted that the ease of the JKN service flow has greatly helped his family in obtaining more regular and stable healthcare.
