IPB University is accelerating the development of technology based on artificial intelligence (AI) and high-resolution satellite imagery to monitor nutritional conditions in oil palm plants. This innovative step is expected to provide recommendations for plantation land maintenance with greater precision and efficiency.
The development of this cutting-edge system is realized thanks to a strategic collaboration between the International Research Institute (LRI) for Advanced Technology at IPB University and PT Dabeeo Artificial Intelligence Indonesia. Through the integration of this technology, farmers and plantation managers do not have to rely solely on manual field observations, but can instead detect symptoms of nutrient deficiency and potential disease attacks at an early stage.
The Head of LRI Advanced Technology at IPB University, Prof. Anas Miftah Fauzi, explained that the new system is designed to strengthen the "Precipalm" innovation developed previously. While Precipalm focuses on leaf image analysis for fertilization recommendations, the collaboration with the South Korean partner will expand the analysis scope using high-resolution satellite data down to 30 centimeters.
PT Dabeeo itself currently operates various advanced satellites capable of mapping historical vegetation dynamics. The satellite technology is equipped with the ability to detect tree density, canopy cover, and land change detection features, which are crucial for the sustainable management of the modern agroforestry industry.
This strategic partnership officially commenced following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by both parties. Business Development Head of Dabeeo Indonesia, Rizky Dantri, emphasized his commitment to fully support this research, including facilitating the funding needs for satellite imagery data acquisition during the course of the study.
