The Indonesian government is currently accelerating the completion of the legal framework regarding the planned distribution of additional funds amounting to IDR 20 trillion to BPJS Kesehatan. The Minister of Health ensured that the main obstacle in disbursing the funds is not budget availability, but rather compliance with regulatory mechanisms that are absolute requirements for the disbursement of state funds.
Currently, the draft Government Regulation (PP) which serves as the legal basis for the distribution of the funds is being processed at the State Secretariat. The relevant ministries hope the President will sign the document soon so that the Ministry of Finance has the legal basis to realize the budget as quickly as possible.
The President Director of BPJS Kesehatan, Prihati Pujowaskito, emphasized that the injection of IDR 20 trillion in funds—which comes from the allocations of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance of IDR 10 trillion each—is highly crucial. These funds are projected to maintain the sustainability of the National Health Insurance (JKN) Program to avoid a default predicted to occur by July 2027.
In accordance with applicable regulations, the assistance funds can only be disbursed if there is a legal basis stating that the financial condition of BPJS Kesehatan has experienced a deficit. BPJS Kesehatan hopes that all administrative and legal processes can be completed by August at the latest, so that the stability of healthcare services for the public remains optimally maintained.
