The opening of the football tournament, which brought together Pagar Merbau District against Sunggal District at the Baharoeddin Siregar Stadium, marked the official commencement of the Deli Serdang Sports Gala on Saturday (1/8/2026). This regional-scale event was opened directly by the Regent of Deli Serdang, dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan, accompanied by Vice Regent Lom Lom Suwondo.

A total of 22 representative teams from all districts in Deli Serdang Regency participated in this football competition. Aside from football, the event, which runs from August 1 to 10, 2026, also features several other sports, such as table tennis, volleyball, badminton, and skateboarding.

This activity is part of the EVORIA (Sports, Art and Culture, and Religious Events) program, designed specifically as a platform for local athletes to hone their skills. Regent Asri Ludin explained that the tournament is not only to enliven the commemoration of Indonesia's Independence Day but is also a strategic step in scouting the best talent to compete in the upcoming North Sumatra Provincial Sports Week (Porprov).

To ensure sustainable development, the local government plans to hold similar competitions two to three times a year. Through this routine agenda, athletes who actively train in district clubs will have a tangible opportunity to test their competitive mentality. This step is expected to channel the positive energy of the younger generation, steering them away from the dangers of drug abuse.

On the sidelines of inspecting the table tennis match at the Sports Hall (GOR), the Regent also monitored the construction of new sports facilities, including futsal and basketball courts. Furthermore, he revealed plans to renovate the Baharoeddin Siregar Stadium to make it more representative and suitable for hosting national-level sports events in the future.
