The Serang Regency Government (Pemkab), along with the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), has firmly dismissed public concerns regarding the safety of tourist destinations on the Banten coast. Although Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) is currently on Alert (Level III) status, popular beach areas such as Anyer and Cinangka are declared safe for tourists to visit during the school holiday season.
The Vice Regent of Serang, Muhammad Najib Hamas, during his visit to the GAK Observation Post in Pasauran Village on Monday (6/7), urged the public not to be influenced by disinformation. He specifically corrected the circulation of a video on social media showing a major eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, emphasizing that the content is a hoax or edited footage for which no one can be held accountable.
Technical support for this statement was provided by the GAK Observation Post officer, Deny Mardiono. According to him, the danger zone is limited to a three-kilometer radius from the eruption site. With a geographical distance of 42 kilometers from Anyer, Cinangka, and Carita beaches, it is highly unlikely that volcanic material will reach residential areas or these tourist destinations.
Deny explained that current volcanic activity remains within reasonable limits, with visual observations showing only thin plumes of smoke five to ten meters high. He emphasized that the Geological Agency has issued an official statement to refute the misleading narratives that had sparked public concern.
As part of its transparency efforts, PVMBG is committed to updating volcanic activity data every six hours. The public is advised not to be easily swayed by inaccurate rumors and is recommended to monitor the latest information through the official Magma Indonesia application or official Geological Agency information channels for a comfortable travel experience.
