The Denpasar City Government is intensifying efforts to clean up urban utility networks through the implementation of the Integrated Utility Network System (SJUT). This step was taken as a concrete solution to address the clutter of provider cables that have been eyesores in public spaces across various corners of the city.
Vice Mayor of Denpasar, I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa, explained that the arrangement strategy is being carried out gradually using a cluster pattern. After successfully pioneering this project in the Sanur tourism area, the next priority will target the cultural heritage cluster on Jalan Gajah Mada, followed by the business center area.
Arya Wibawa stated that for the Jalan Gajah Mada cluster, the entire regulatory framework and technical preparations have been completed. The local government targets the project in that area to be fully completed by 2026. This approach is considered realistic given the large budget required for the construction of integrated underground infrastructure.
Furthermore, the SJUT concept does not solely rely on burying cables underground. For networks that remain overhead, the government will consolidate the cables to be neatly organized into a single path, thereby eliminating the slum-like appearance that residents have complained about.
Although the government's main focus is currently on economic activity and public service centers, the Denpasar City Government also appreciates several villages that have taken the initiative to organize utilities independently. This integrated step is expected to create a safer, more organized city image with high aesthetic value for both residents and tourists.
