The Central Java Provincial Government is currently taking strategic steps to reorganize the healthcare service map across all regional hospitals. This policy was adopted following the enactment of Minister of Health Regulation (Permenkes) Number 6 of 2026 and the implementation of the Indonesian Diagnosis Related Groups (iDRG) payment system, which demands more precise service standards.
Regional Secretary of Central Java Province, Sumarno, emphasized that this momentum is crucial for remapping the position of government hospitals. According to him, the main focus is no longer just pursuing full accreditation, but ensuring that hospitals exist to meet the specific needs of the community according to their respective segments and capacities.
"The presence of government hospitals must be complementary, rather than competing to attract patients. Basic services must be optimized at the regency/city level, while provincial hospitals focus on handling more complex medical cases," explained Sumarno during the presentation of the implementation of the new regulation at RSUD Dr. Moewardi, Surakarta.
Furthermore, Sumarno emphasized that the effectiveness of healthcare services is not actually measured by the high number of patient visits. He reminded hospital management to pay equal attention to curative efforts as well as promotive and preventive services in order to improve the overall health status of the community.
Regarding financial management, every regional hospital with Public Service Agency (BLU) status is instructed to increase efficiency and transparency. Through the diagnosis-group-based iDRG system, hospitals are required to map the actual cost of medical procedures, making budget management more measurable without sacrificing the quality of service to the public.
