Padang City Municipal Water Company (Perumda Air Minum) officially started a comprehensive repair project on the accelerator infrastructure of the Gunung Pangilun Water Treatment Plant (WTP) on Tuesday (21/7/2026). This improvement effort is targeted to run for four weeks to restore the quality of clean water distribution following a disaster that damaged the crucial facility.
The accelerator building plays a vital role in integrating the coagulation, flocculation, and sedimentation processes to purify raw water. This physical rehabilitation project is funded by central government assistance, with PT Hutama Karya appointed as the contractor executing the work on the ground.
President Director of Perumda Air Minum Kota Padang, Hendra Pebrizal, revealed that during the maintenance period, several areas in the city center will experience disruptions in water supply of varying intensities. His team promises to oversee the project so that it can be completed faster than the estimated one-month timeframe, depending on weather conditions.
For areas such as the GOR area, Jalan S. Parman, Sawahan, Aur Duri, Lubuk Lintah, Kalumbuk, and Batang Arau, the water supply is predicted to continue flowing during the day but with weaker pressure. Meanwhile, the Jati Adabiah, Ampang, Belanti, Nipah, Parak Gadang, and Sisingamangaraja areas will only receive clean water flow at night.
The most severe disruption, in the form of a total water outage, could potentially impact the Purus, Pancasila, Rohana Kudus, Pasopati, and Jondul Rawang areas. As a mitigation measure, Perumda Air Minum Kota Padang is preparing a fleet of free water tank trucks to distribute emergency clean water to severely affected points.
