The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has officially expanded the scope of its strategic collaboration by partnering with various stakeholders. This step was taken as a concrete effort to strengthen the foundation of a more inclusive and professional sports ecosystem in the Yogyakarta region.

The Chairman of KONI DIY, KGPAA Paku Alam X, emphasized that athletic achievements are the accumulation of a long process involving the synergy of many parties. In this collaboration involving two universities and three hospitals, the main focus is to create a healthier and more structured ecosystem for athletes.

"Sports development requires togetherness, trust, and a willingness to strengthen one another. The health sector will play a crucial role in maintaining fitness and supporting athlete recovery processes, while universities serve as the driving force for innovation, personal development, and supporting technology research," said Paku Alam X in Yogyakarta on Friday (3/7/2026).

One of the main highlights of this collaboration is the digitalization of the sports system. Paku Alam X exemplified that technological innovation is urgently needed to simplify match scoring systems, athlete rankings, and sports data management to make them more accurate and transparent.

Responding to this, the Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, welcomed the initiative positively. His institution is committed to providing support through specialized sports healthcare services as well as scholarship programs for student-athletes to ensure a balance between athletic careers and academic education.

According to Nurmandi, this collaboration creates a significant mutualistic symbiosis. He also praised the quality of sports infrastructure in DIY, which is considered above average compared to other regions in Indonesia, hoping it will serve as a strong asset in preparing athletes for future competitions.
