President Prabowo Subianto officially invited India to deepen their strategic partnership in the energy security sector. The invitation was conveyed during a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/7/2026).
In his press statement, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of collaboration in the development of Solar Power Plants (PLTS). Beyond solar energy, Indonesia is also opening opportunities for capacity exchange and technology transfer in the nuclear field as a long-term solution for national energy needs.
In addition to focusing on the energy sector, economic relations were a crucial agenda item during the meeting. The Indonesian government stated its commitment to boosting trade volume with India by accelerating discussions on the Indonesia-India Preferential Trade Agreement. Furthermore, Indonesia is encouraging the updating of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) to optimize regional market potential.
Cooperation between the two countries extends beyond economics and energy. President Prabowo also highlighted the importance of collaboration in developing new technologies, strengthening digital infrastructure, and synchronizing efforts to combat transnational crimes to maintain regional stability.
