The Banyuwangi Regency Government has officially partnered with Universitas Airlangga (Unair) to strengthen the healthcare services sector through a specialist medical education development program. This concrete step is realized by making Blambangan Regional General Hospital (RSUD) and Genteng Regional General Hospital (RSUD) network hospitals for the Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS).

The cooperation agreement was signed on Saturday (4/7/2026), attended by the Rector of Unair Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan alongside the Regent of Banyuwangi Ipuk Fiestiandani. This initiative is a continuation of the existence of the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Natural Sciences (FIKKIA) Unair in Banyuwangi, which has continued to grow rapidly over the last 15 years.

The Rector of Unair, Prof. Madyan, revealed that they are currently mapping specific medical needs in Banyuwangi. The main focus of this program's development is directed toward fields most needed by the community, such as internal medicine, radiology, as well as oncology and chemotherapy services, to address the high incidence of these diseases in the local area.

The Regent of Banyuwangi, Ipuk Fiestiandani, welcomed this collaboration. She assessed that the presence of specialist medical education facilities in regional general hospitals will create a more professional health ecosystem, while continuously improving service quality, safety, and patient satisfaction throughout the Banyuwangi region.

In addition to impacting the efficiency of public services, this collaboration also reflects the increasing appeal of medical education in Banyuwangi. In the last three years, the interest of prospective students from various regions in Indonesia to study at FIKKIA Unair Banyuwangi has experienced a significant increase.
