PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk (SMDR) projects that the performance of the shipyard sector will continue to show a positive trend throughout the second semester of 2026. This optimism is driven by high demand for new shipbuilding, as well as the routine need for fleet repair and maintenance (docking) services, which continue to rise in line with national logistics dynamics.
The management of Samudera Indonesia revealed that the challenge of shipyard capacity distribution, which has so far been concentrated in Western Indonesia, actually presents a strategic opportunity. As a responsive step, the company is currently accelerating the construction of an integrated shipyard facility in Madura, which is projected to start full operations in mid-2027.
The facility in Madura is designed to have a capacity of up to 90,000 deadweight tons (DWT) and is equipped with modern infrastructure such as a graving dock and jetty. This expansion step is expected to strengthen the company's position in serving the needs of the maritime industry, especially in the Central and Eastern Indonesia regions, which currently still face limitations in supporting facilities.
Although the company has not yet disclosed specific contract value targets, it remains committed to continuously improving service quality and utilizing existing facilities. With a portfolio that includes various types of vessels ranging from tankers to fishing boats, Samudera Indonesia is optimistic about capturing growth opportunities amidst fleet modernization and increasing domestic trade activity.
