The Central Java Provincial Government is exploring opportunities for a comprehensive bilateral partnership with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This strategic step includes collaboration in technology transfer, investment, food security, and tourism development to accelerate economic growth in the Central Java region.
The initiation of this cooperation was discussed in depth during a meeting between the Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, and the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, in Semarang City on Wednesday (22/7/2026). One of the key points discussed was the plan to establish sister city relations between Semarang City and Yazd City, as well as provincial-level cooperation (sister province).
Governor Ahmad Luthfi highlighted the potential of technology transfer from Iran, which is considered highly advanced, particularly in the dairy farming sector. He cited the example of dairy cow productivity in Iran, which can reach 30 liters per cow per day, far exceeding the average of local farmers in Central Java, who currently produce only 10 to 15 liters. In addition to livestock, Central Java is also aiming to adopt unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) technology for agricultural efficiency and medical innovation.
Trade relations between the two sides have actually been positive; in 2025, Central Java's non-oil and gas exports to Iran recorded a surplus valued at 7.43 million US Dollars. To maximize investment potential, the Central Java Provincial Government is now offering a number of strategic green projects to the Iranian delegation, such as waste-to-energy power plants, green hospitals (green hospital), the salt processing industry, and integrated fisheries zones.
The Iranian Ambassador, Mohammad Boroujerdi, welcomed the offer and committed to following up with both central and local governments in Iran. Given that 96 percent of Central Java's 38.46 million population is Muslim, this cultural closeness is expected to be a strong bridge to strengthen economic partnerships, education, and religious tourism packages to historical sites in Iran.
