The head coach of the Indonesian National Team, John Herdman, has officially announced the 26-player squad that will strengthen the Garuda squad in the 2026 AFF Cup. In choosing the team's composition this time, Herdman applied a strategy combining potential young pillars and experienced senior players to achieve maximum results in Southeast Asia's prestigious football tournament.
Several regular national team players are once again trusted to fill crucial positions. Defenders Rizky Ridho and Jordi Amat are set to guard the backline alongside Sandy Walsh. In the midfield and forward sectors, playmaking creativity will be supported by Thom Haye, Marc Klok, Marselino Ferdinan, Beckham Putra, as well as dynamic forward Ragnar Oratmangoen. In the goalkeeping department, senior goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata returns to the squad call-up.
Of the total squad called up, the tactician relies heavily on talents competing in the domestic league, with 24 players actively playing in the country's competition. This move demonstrates Herdman's high level of trust in the quality of the local competition to compete at the international level.
Meanwhile, only two players playing abroad were called up to strengthen the team. They are tough defender Justin Hubner, who currently plays for Dutch club Fortuna Sittard, and Mitchell Baker, who plays for US club Vermont Green. The synergy between local and diaspora players is expected to lead Indonesia to the highest achievement in the 2026 AFF Cup.
