Belgium put on an impressive display against hosts United States in their 2026 World Cup round of 16 clash at Seattle Stadium, Washington, on Tuesday (7/7). Heading into the break, Rudi Garcia's squad managed to secure a narrow 2-1 lead following a dominant attacking performance.
Belgium took the lead early just nine minutes into the match. Charles De Ketelaere successfully converted an accurate cross from Nicolas Raskin for the opening goal. Capitalizing on early attacking initiative, Belgium maintained intense pressure on The Yanks' defense guarded by Matt Freese.
The United States offered fierce resistance after the hydration break. The hosts' relentless efforts paid off in the 31st minute through a Malik Tillman free kick. Tillman's well-placed strike deceived Belgium's experienced goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, bringing the score level at 1-1.
However, the tie lasted just two minutes. Charles De Ketelaere proved his sharpness once again by scoring his second goal with a header from a fine Leandro Trossard delivery. This goal put Belgium back in front before the end of the first half.
