The 2026 Bojonegoro Regency Sports Week II (PORKAB) has officially begun. The lively opening ceremony held at the Ngumpakdalem Main Sports Center on Friday (July 3, 2026) marked the start of the largest regional sports competition, involving a total of 3,553 athletes representing 28 sub-districts across Bojonegoro Regency.

The opening ceremony featured a parade of contingents from each sub-district and the introduction of the whistling duck mascot representing this year's event. Head of the Bojonegoro Youth and Sports Department (Dinpora), Nanang Arif, emphasized that the event, running until July 11, 2026, serves as a strategic development step to scout talented athletes. The main focus of this event is to prepare the regional contingent for the upcoming East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) in 2027.

In his speech, the Regent of Bojonegoro, Setyo Wahono, emphasized the importance of maintaining sportsmanship above medal counts. According to him, PORKAB is not just an arena for competition, but a means to strengthen solidarity and togetherness among residents. To mark the start of the series of matches, Regent Setyo Wahono performed a ceremonial ball throw into the goal in handball.

There is a significant increase in this year's execution compared to the first edition in 2024. Vice Chairman of the Bojonegoro Regency National Sports Committee (KONI), Tonny Ade Irawan, stated that the number of contested sports branches jumped from 16 to 28. Active participation from all sub-districts serves as a positive indicator that enthusiasm for sports development in Bojonegoro continues to grow and is expected to yield proud achievements in the future.
