Indonesia is assessed to have a very solid foundation to step further into the artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Magure Inc, Akhil Koka, revealed that Indonesia's position is currently shifting from a mere technology consumer market to an independent developer capable of building domestic AI sovereignty.
This readiness is supported by advancements in computing infrastructure, massive investments in data centers, and an increasingly clear regulatory policy direction. Akhil emphasized that initiatives like 'Sahabat AI'—an open-source large language model ecosystem initiated by Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and GoTo Group—serve as tangible proof of the nation's talent in producing its own technology models.
Furthermore, the presence of cutting-edge technology such as the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 implemented at the AI Factory Indonesia facility further strengthens the national computing foundation. According to Akhil, investments from global hyperscale cloud players in the country also serve as an important catalyst in accelerating this digital transformation.
Despite his optimism, Akhil highlighted a gap between corporate ambition and governance readiness. Based on an IBM survey, while the majority of business leaders are confident in adopting AI, only 24% have an adequate governance framework in place. He warned that corporate-level AI implementation requires strict access control, observability, and human involvement to ensure ethics and operational efficiency.
As a strategic move, he advises companies not to get bogged down in overly complex projects at the start. Instead, focusing on business processes that deliver tangible efficiency impacts—such as document verification automation in the banking sector—will be far more effective in demonstrating long-term business value.
