The government has officially initiated a new chapter in national waste management with the launch of the Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) project in Pedungan Village, South Denpasar. The facility, developed by Danantara Indonesia, is touted as a concrete solution to the chronic waste issues that have previously tarnished Bali's tourism image on the international stage.
With a processing capacity of up to 1,500 tons per day, this infrastructure is designed to resolve the daily waste load from Denpasar City and Badung Regency, which is recorded at 1,200 tons. This step is in line with the Government's vision to present a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environmental ecosystem for both the community and tourists.
The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, emphasized that the operational success of the PSEL will have a positive domino effect on the local economy. Given that the tourism sector contributes up to 65 percent to Bali's economy, with a national foreign exchange achievement of IDR 176 trillion, addressing the waste issue is crucial to maintaining the competitiveness of this premier destination amid the high flow of tourist visits.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Danantara Indonesia, Rosan Roeslani, stated that this project is a manifestation of President Prabowo Subianto's instruction to accelerate national waste management. The utilization of cutting-edge technology in the PSEL is expected not only to reduce adverse impacts on health and the environment but also to ensure transparent and efficient governance to prevent ecological burdens for future generations.
