The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has urged the public and tourists to increase vigilance regarding the volcanic activity of Mount Lokon in Tomohon City, North Sulawesi. Based on periodic evaluation results released by local authorities, the volcano, which stands at 1,580 meters above sea level, is currently maintained at Level II (Alert) status.
In line with this alert status, the public is prohibited from conducting activities or approaching the area within a 1.5-kilometer radius of the Tompaluan Crater, which is the center of the volcano's active activity. This mitigation measure was taken to avoid the potential danger of phreatic eruptions and the spread of hazardous gases that could occur suddenly.
The local government, along with relevant parties, also continues to closely monitor the development of Mount Lokon's seismic activity. Residents in the surrounding areas are expected to remain calm but stay alert, following official recommendations and instructions from the volcano observation post for mutual safety.
