The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta is currently finalizing plans to adjust fares for the Transjakarta bus service. Although signs of a fare increase were previously hinted at by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, the policy is still undergoing in-depth study to find the best formula for the public.
Amid the ongoing evaluation process, various strategic proposals have emerged to improve the price structure. One of the prominent ideas comes from the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ), which proposes a simplification of fares.
DTKJ proposes that Transjakarta fares be set at a flat rate of IDR 5,000 for all integrated services. This step is seen as an effort to ease transactions and improve connectivity between transport modes in the capital.
In addition to fare standardization, the discourse on a monthly subscription fare scheme has also become a crucial point in the discussion. The monthly subscription option worth IDR 200,000 is expected to offer better economic value for daily commuters, while encouraging more massive use of public transportation amid Jakarta's traffic congestion.
