News regarding employee layoffs within Tokopedia re-emerged in mid-2026. The issue sparked public attention following speculation about workforce reductions across various strategic divisions, ranging from technology units and research to system security.
Responding to these concerns, the government through the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) together with the House of Representatives (DPR RI) took proactive steps. Through a meeting facilitated by the Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, on Monday (7/6/2026), the management of TikTok Group as the parent company provided direct clarification regarding the internal condition of the company.
Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, appreciated the company's approach of prioritizing an internal mobility scheme. This step was seen as a constructive solution to minimize social impact, where workers are given the opportunity to transfer to other business lines within the TikTok Group ecosystem to remain productive.
On the other hand, Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad denied rumors of mass layoffs. According to him, the ongoing process is an organizational restructuring effort following business integration. Dasco noted that around 200 employees chose to accept compensation packages as part of the adjustment process.
In line with this, Executive Director of Tokopedia and TikTok E-commerce Indonesia, Stephanie Susilo, emphasized that the company is not carrying out a layoff policy. Stephanie instead highlighted that the company is currently recruiting for more than 100 new positions as part of its efforts to strengthen operations after the integration process was completed.
