The arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has taken center stage in the global technology industry following initial leaks of the device. The most anticipated innovation is the complete elimination of the screen crease, a structural hurdle that has long been the greatest challenge for foldable smartphone manufacturers.
Based on leaked production line video footage, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra screen shows highly uniform light reflection without distortion around the hinge area. This technology is believed to be the realization of the advanced panel prototype previously showcased by Samsung Display at CES 2026.
Achieving a completely flat display not only enhances aesthetic value but also optimizes the touch experience and visual comfort for users. Nevertheless, several analysts predict that eliminating the crease could potentially increase production costs and demand significantly stricter durability standards for flexible panels.
Under the hood, Samsung confirmed the use of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor for both the Ultra and standard Fold models to support high-level multitasking and artificial intelligence (AI) processing performance. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip8 variant will reportedly feature the Exynos 2600 chip in select regional markets.
This innovative step serves as a crucial strategy for the South Korean tech giant to counter fierce competition from rivals such as OPPO and Huawei, which previously led in crease-reduction technology. Samsung is scheduled to unveil this latest lineup—including the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2—at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, 2026, with selling prices predicted to be higher than those of previous generations.
