The Regional Government of Gunung Mas Regency, Central Kalimantan, officially designated 214 new students for Sekolah Rakyat (SR) for the 2026/2027 academic year. The decision was made during a cross-sector plenary meeting involving the Social Services Office, Statistics Indonesia, the Education Office, and other related entities in Kuala Kurun on Friday (10/7).

Acting Head of the Gunung Mas Social Services Office, Baryen, explained that the total target quota set for this year is 270 students, evenly divided into 90 students each for elementary (SD), junior high (SMP), and senior high (SMA) levels. Based on the latest selection results, the accepted students consist of 89 elementary, 87 junior high, and 38 senior high students.

There is a deficit of 56 unfilled quota slots, mostly at the senior high school level. Baryen revealed that the main challenge in this recruitment process is the challenging geographical condition of Gunung Mas Regency, making outreach efforts to prospective students in remote villages require more time.

The Social Services Office is committed to immediately filling the remaining quota before the School Environment Orientation Period (MPLS) begins on July 31, 2026. This effort is carried out to support the priority program 'Tambun Bungai Cerdas' championed by the Gunung Mas Regency Government to improve human resource quality.

The Sekolah Rakyat program is a strategic initiative aligned with the vision of Regent Jaya S. Monong and Vice Regent Efrensia LP Umbing. Currently, teaching and learning activities are scheduled to take place at the permanent SR building undergoing construction in Tumbang Tambirah Village, Kurun District, replacing the pioneer facility previously located at the former Hotel Gunung Mas.
