The Minister of Environment, Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, highly appreciated the various environmental management technology innovations developed by the academic community of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS). This appreciation was conveyed directly during a working visit to the ITS Rectorate Building, Surabaya, on Monday (27/7/2026).
One innovation that drew attention was ITS COMPOStech, a smart organic waste processing machine (ecosmart composter). This device is capable of reducing up to 50 kilograms of organic waste per day with a maximum processing duration of 20 hours per cycle. Its low-odor and minimal liquid waste design is considered highly applicable for the tourism and hospitality sectors, as well as the kitchens of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG).
In addition to the composter, ITS also showcased the Mobile Water Treatment, a portable clean water treatment system based on electrocoagulation technology. This technology is projected to be a solution for emergency clean water supply in remote areas as well as regions affected by natural disasters. If synergized with COMPOStech, this system can simultaneously address solid and liquid waste problems in the food industry sector.
The technology campus in Surabaya also introduced circular economy-based innovations using superworms to degrade styrofoam plastic waste. On the digital waste management side, there is the Siklusin application, which is capable of tracking waste transaction flows in real-time from clients to the recycling industry, providing crucial data for the government in formulating environmental policies.
The Rector of ITS, Prof. Dr. (HC) Ir. Bambang Pramujati, emphasized his institution's readiness to realize the downstreaming of these innovations through partnerships with the industrial sector for mass production. This commitment is aligned with the ITS roadmap towards the Net Zero Emission target in the upcoming 2026-2030 period.
