The Mount Papandayan Nature Tourism Park (TWA) area in West Java reportedly experienced a unique natural phenomenon as frost covered the grassy fields. This rare event was captured by a climber and tour guide, Cepi Sopian, in the Pondok Saladah area on July 9.
Cepi revealed that the phenomenon was a first for him after routinely climbing the mountain for more than two years. The frozen dew caused by extreme cold temperatures provided an unusual sight for visitors present at the location at that time.
Management of the Mount Papandayan TWA confirmed that a drastic drop in temperature was the main trigger for the appearance of the ice crystals. Aminta Kaban, a representative of the management, explained that temperatures in the area usually range between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius. However, this season, temperatures plummeted to 1 degree Celsius in the early morning hours.
Furthermore, management stated that the appearance of frost is strongly influenced by erratic weather conditions. Although not the first time in the mountain's history, the intensity of the cold felt this year is considered far more extreme compared to previous periods.
